Competition honours the 200th Anniversary of The Greek War of Independence! The West Australian Modern Greek Language Teachers’ Association Inc. (WAMGLTA) is proud to announce this year’s participants and prize winners in its annual Speak Greek in June Competition. Offered for the third consecutive year, the competition invites students from Pre-primary to Year 12, who are studying the Modern Greek language in a formal capacity, to speak for up to 3 minutes on any of the listed topics on offer or on a topic of their choice, as approved by their teacher. This year, the topic was “The 200th Anniversary of The Greek War of Independence”. Students could choose from the following ideas related to the topic:
The aim of the competition is to promote the speaking of Modern Greek, which is often the most challenging part of learning a language. The entries are video-recorded and are submitted for judging, based on three criteria:
This year, there was a total of 23 participants across two schools (listed alphabetically);
The results of the competition are listed below: Immaculate Heart College – Primary School Non-background Speakers (Pair) Year 3: Logan Wimshurst and Year 4: Addison Leggett – Winning Entry St. Andrew’s Grammar – Secondary School Non-background Speakers (Pair) Year 9: Lamia Mohammed & Rianne Garcia Year 9: Lazar Jovanovic & Cleo Petrelis – Winning Entry Non-background Speakers (Group) Year 9: Tiffany Thet Lwin, Nooria Ranjbar & Yasmeen Abdulla Year 9: Andrei Muresan, Hussein Mantach & Leonardo Katan Year 9: Nickolas Pergamalis, Jordan Myintaye & Suraj Punia Year 9: Andjela Petkovic, Lamiya Ekic, Reeya Shah & Nina Novakovic Year 9: Georgia Kikiros, Leon Nguyen, Walter Ng & Yasmin Young – Winning Entry Once again, WAMGLTA wishes to thank its sponsor for this competition - Dr Con Berbatis and family.
