The West Australian Modern Greek Language Teachers’ Association Inc. (WAMGLTA) is proud to announce that Ms Irene Starr was this year’s recipient of the Professional Teaching Council of Western Australia (PTCWA) Outstanding Professional Service Award.

Accompanied by the Chair of WAMGLTA, Dr Angela Evangelinou-Yiannakis, and newest member, Ms Nina Battalis, Irene attended the 2019 Presentation Ceremony at Tompkins on Swan on Wednesday 23 October. One of 24 Award recipients, Irene made our Association proud with her achievements during her almost three years of membership with WAMGLTA.

A brief account of Irene’s achievements during this time include the following:
  • Ms Irene Starr has been a member of the West Australian Modern Greek Language Teachers’ Association Inc. (WAMGLTA) since 29/1/2017.
  • She has been an active and proactive member, attending meetings and offering innovative suggestions for the improvement of the teaching and learning of Modern Greek in WA.
  • In 2018, WAMGLTA held its first Professional Learning opportunity and Irene was instrumental to the success of this venture. She not only made the premises of The Evangelismos Greek Language School available for the PL, she also provided all the food and drinks with funds received by the school for such activities. Furthermore, she ensured that the venue was set up professionally and that full ICT facilities were available, making for smooth operations on the day.
  • Irene then ensured that some of the best practice presented at the PL was implemented at the school, writing an article with photos included; the publication of which further promoted the activities of WAMGLTA.
  • Irene has since made the premises of the school available for all WAMGLTA meetings.
  • WAMGLTA is grateful for the consistent and vital support offered by Ms Irene Starr.

Nominees are put forward by their fellow Committee members.
Previous WAMGLTA recipients of the PTCWA Outstanding Professional Service Award are:
