New CGL Examination Dates for 2021
The Centre for the Greek Language (CGL) in Thessaloniki, Greece, has announced the new dates for this year’s CGL Examinations, which were postponed from May as a result of COVID-19. The Examinations will take place in October and will be spread over 4 days to allow for social distancing in the examination rooms. The CGL Examinations will take place at St. Andrew’s Grammar, with details to be provided closer to the date. Registration Candidates who have already registered and paid for these examinations are in the system; however, a new window is now offered for othercandidates or those candidates who did not get the opportunity to register earlier this year. Interested candidates can now apply from Tuesday 1 June to Monday 28 June, by completing the attached forms and providing photographic ID. Fees have been set by Greece and are as follows:

Please note that the Centre for the Greek Language in Thessaloniki, Greece, has informed all centres around the world of the postponement of the May examinations due to the continuing effects of COVID-19. The ongoing critical situation regarding the pandemic in Greece, and in many countries around the world, has necessitated a review of the dates for this year’s CGL Examinations. To this end, the new examination period will be in the first week of October 2021 (4-8 October). Furthermore, and as was the case in 2020, the examinations will take place over four days and not three to allow for social distancing measures, as needed. As a result of this change in dates, there will also be a new registration period; that is, from 1 to 28 June 2021. The exact date and time for each CGL Examination Level will be announced in due course. Dr Angela Evangelinou-Yiannakis Director of the CGL at St. Andrew’s Grammar (61002) All interested persons are now invited to register for this year’s Centre for the Greek Language(CGL) Examinations to be held in May at St. Andrew’s Grammar (officially-recognised CGL Examination Centre). Prospective candidates of Greek and also non-Greek background are invited to test their written and spoken Greek language competency skills through these annual examinations. Successful candidates will be issued with a Certificate of Attainment in Greekfrom Greece’s Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, and the Centre for the Greek Language: Division for the Support and Promotion of the Greek Language(Thessaloniki, Greece). There are 7 levels on offer, catering to a full spectrum of Greek language competencies. These include a level for children aged 8-12 years old (children who are over8 years of age and below12 years of age on the 31stof May, 2021); a level for beginner adolescents and adults, through to a level for persons with excellent knowledge of the Greek language. Candidates younger than 16 are stronglyadvisedto avoid taking the examinations for levels B2, C1 and C2 as the examination content for these levels may require general knowledge and experience beyond their years. They were re-scheduled to take place in October and, with strict social distancing measures in place, the examinations took place over four days at St. Andrew’s Grammar. The following 18 candidates were successful in their respective level:

I extend my thanks to the Principal, Mr Craig Monaghan, and staff of St. Andrew’s Grammar for accommodating the CGL Examinations at the School last year, as has been the case since the examinations were first offered in 2005. My special thanks go to fellow CGL Committee member, Mrs Katerina Reklitis, who assisted me over the four days with the invigilation of the examinations, and in co-marking the oral component. The examination papers were dispatched to Greece at the end of the examination week, where they were marked. The CGL in Thessaloniki, Greece, will send the certificates for the successful candidates in late March.
